I spent as much time in Paris with Ron as I could, but eventually, we had to go back. He promised he wasn't too sore, never mind that we'd not only repeated our first performance a few times, but managed to improve on it. Then he'd had his way with me. In the end, the bed was destroyed, we were happy, and our date was definitely a success. If anything, I'd fallen even more in love with that man.

But when we got back to Tyrnigg, the rest of our legion was gone. Most likely on Vesdar, making sure Sia could actually fly, which meant they wouldn't be away too long. It didn't matter, though, because the two of us convinced ourselves that it was ok to take just a little nap - and none of them bothered to wake us when they got back.

The next morning, I woke up to the sounds of someone moving in the living room. It felt like I'd lost a day, but between the time and seasonal differences, I'd simply had a wonderfully long night of rest. Turning my head, I found Ron still asleep, a little smile on his lips, so I decided not to disturb him. As carefully as I could, I eased myself off the bed and out of the room.

It was Nick and Bel in the living room, whispering over a stack of papers. Immediately, Nick heard me, looking up with a smile that said he was glad to see me in one piece. Bel followed his gaze and nodded his own approval.

"What?" I asked.

"You look happy," Nick said. "How's he doing?"

"Good," I promised. "We just didn't exactly sleep much. Well, not until we got back."

Bel grinned at me. "How does he like Paris?"

"He's fascinated with the sleet. I'd hoped for snow." Then I waved that away. "And I miss the coffee already."

Bel reached beside him for a paper cup, then offered it to me. "Sia will not let you forget that you are going to Heaven today."

"Not Heaven," I assured him, accepting the cup. "Uriel's plantation is well outside the city boundaries. He also has a sizeable piece of land, strong defenses, and loyal slaves, oddly enough. I feel confident that an entire choir of angels could show up and never know I was in the same house."

"Plantation? Is that what they call them?" Nick asked.

I rolled my eyes. "It's the closest translation, unless you prefer domicile of the master, which is a bit of a mouthful. So, since we're using English, I'm not calling every archangel's home a mansion or something even more ridiculous." Then I glanced up at the loft. "She still asleep?"

"No," Nick said around a laugh. "She's been up a few hours."

"And she can fly," Beelzebub said proudly. "Seems she learned best when falling. That girl has to terrify the rest of us to master things, I think."

"Tell me about it," I agreed. "Well, I don't expect Ron to be asleep for too much longer - "

Nick's finger flicked toward my room, and he canted his head.
